Vehicle/Plant GPS trackers are designed to be wired into the electrical system of a host vehicle, then physically locate and orient it to strongly receive satellite signals.

Most trackers require the use of a Wiring kit (USB Mini or Micro) to step down the vehicle voltage to 5V + 0.25V. Others have this step down converter in-built covering a wide range of supplied power.

Quality of installation has a strong bearing on the tracker's reliability. Connections to the electrical system need to be very secure with ample insulation and ingress protection. The connection location needs to be concealed if possible, as does the cable leading to the tracker. The cable conductors needs to be of sufficient size to survive normal handling by mechanics, etc.
The wiring kit should be protected from ambient moisture if it isn't sealed. Moisture is the main threat to all installed trackers. Use the supplied internal polythene zip-lock bag with cable tie, inside the neoprene pouch, where supplied.

Factors that will drain the host vehicle's battery are: the tracker operating mode selected; the satellite reception strength and the selected reporting frequency.
